You will be picked up at your hostel at around 8:00am (depending on the location of your hostel). After picking up other people in your travel group and a short welcome of your tour guide you start the journey to the Sacred Valley by bus. You enjoy the spectacular views while you descend into the valley with its snow capped mountains, small traditional villages and colorful fields. After approx. 45 minutes you arrive to the village of Pisac. Here, you will have time to visit the famous colorful market where locals sell all kinds of food as well as traditional handmade textiles, jewelry, pottery, crafts and arts. Make sure to bring some extra money as this is the perfect place to buy original and unique souvenirs! After visiting the market you get on the bus again for a short ride to the upper part of Pisac that features one of the most extensive and impressive archaeological complex’ of Peru. With your guide you will visit the ancient ruins and learn about the history of the Incas that once lived in this beautiful valley.
Peruvian Lunch Buffet in Urubamba
After visiting Pisac you will continue the journey through the valley, the next stop being town of Urubamba where you can enjoy a delicious buffet lunch, offering a great taste of the local cuisine (The buffet lunch is optional. If you choose to not have the buffet lunch we recommend bringing a box lunch with you as the bus will not bring you to another restaurant).
Ollantaytambo village & Ruins
With full tummies,the journey continues another hour approx. to the village and Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo. The ancient Inca town was founded by the Inca “Ollanta” on the banks of the Urubamba River, an impressive fort built into the mountain with Andean terraces, traditional houses and a ceremonial center. The fort served as the last stronghold for Inca MancoYupanquithet led the Inca resistance. The most popular part of the ruins is the upper part of the fortress where we find the Sun Temple, a number of discarded large stones that seem impossible to move, and can enjoy the stunning view of the valley and the village of Ollantaytambo.
After visiting the Inca ruins, you get on the bus again to return to Cusco. It is possible to finish your tour in Ollantaytambo. Leaving Ollantaytambo the bus will return to Cusco, making a final stop in the small charming village of Chinchero, famous for its small beautiful church and its handmade textiles and weavings. After visiting the church and small traditional market and having a glance into the numerous crafts and textile stores, we return to Cusco (arrival at approx. 7:00pm).
